LS400 compact sub-bass system

The Nexo LS400 is a compact subwoofer designed as the low-frequency extension for the PS8 system. The official LS400 datasheet identifies a twelve-inch long-excursion driver and a six-ohm nominal impedance. This model is part of a prescribed NEXO loudspeaker and controller arrangement.

Adding a subwoofer changes the division of work within a sound system. The LS400 addresses the lower part of the programme material while the associated full-range loudspeakers serve the remainder. The crossover and controller settings determine that division, so selecting the correct processing is as important as selecting the cabinet itself.

Published system information

NEXO specifies a 40Hz–140Hz usable range at -6dB for the LS400 with the associated PS8 TDcontroller. The datasheet also shows two four-pole Speakon connectors and an integral top stand fitting. These are manufacturer design references for the model, not a statement that mounting hardware or other equipment accompanies this unit.

The LS400 is a distinct model from the larger LS500, LS600 and LS18. Its role should be considered in the context of the exact loudspeakers, processing and amplifier arrangement planned for the application. A family resemblance between subwoofer cabinets does not establish identical operating requirements.

Planning the system

For an existing PS8 installation, start with the manufacturer’s LS400 and PS8 documentation. Identify the current signal route and the intended low-frequency coverage, then use the correct controller arrangement and wiring references. The official datasheet is linked below for those model-specific details.

The LS400’s role in a compact system

The LS400 is intended to extend a PS8 system into the lower part of the audio range. That makes it useful to think about the full-range loudspeaker and subwoofer as different parts of one signal plan. The upper-frequency cabinet serves the range assigned to it, while the subwoofer handles the low-frequency duties selected through the system processing.

The practical question is not simply whether more bass is wanted. Consider the intended programme material, listening area and operating level, then decide how the low-frequency part of the system should be arranged. Cabinet quantity and placement should follow that requirement. The number of units currently available for sale is separate from the number a particular application needs.

Controller and crossover relationships

The official LS400 datasheet places its response information in the context of the PS8 TDcontroller. This matters because the cabinet’s intended behaviour depends on the specified processing. A crossover is the point at which the system divides the programme material between different operating bands; it should be selected with the loudspeaker design in mind.

When checking an established rack, identify the processor model as well as the amplifier and the loudspeaker. Keep a record of which outputs serve the subwoofer section and which serve the full-range cabinets. That makes it easier to relate the documented system to the equipment physically connected at the venue.

Connection planning

The LS400’s connector format and nominal impedance belong to its exact model information. Read the manufacturer’s wiring references before integrating it into a system. The presence of more than one connector on a loudspeaker should not be taken as permission to create an arbitrary combination of loads or signal assignments.

A useful installation record identifies each amplifier output and the cabinets it serves. It should also distinguish the line-level signal route from the loudspeaker cable route. This keeps the low-frequency processing decision separate from the final amplified connection, while showing how the two parts of the design relate.

Placement and listener experience

Low-frequency sound interacts with the room and with other sources. Two positions that look convenient may not produce the same result throughout the listening area. The cabinet’s documented design is the starting point; its final position and the rest of the sound system determine how that capability is used.

For a compact PS8 system, that is a reason to plan the low-frequency section deliberately rather than position the LS400 only where a gap is available. Review the physical layout and the intended listening area, then commission the complete arrangement using an appropriate engineering method. The listing’s Excellent condition statement is not a claim about the acoustic result in a buyer’s room.

Model identification for an older inventory

The LS400 is distinct from the LS500, LS600 and LS18. Those names should remain separate in inventory records and system documentation. Where older cabinets have lost paperwork, the actual model label is a better identification reference than visual resemblance alone.

The official LS400 document is linked for that reason. It gives a model-specific starting point for comparing a potential purchase with an existing system. Exact condition, stock and price on this page refer to the seller’s offered units; manufacturer information refers to the product design.
