Soundcraft Si Impact

Soundcraft Si Impact combines digital live mixing with a built-in 32-input, 32-output USB audio interface. The surface has 26 motorised faders, a 5-inch touchscreen and channel displays. FaderGlow changes the fader-track colour to indicate the role currently being controlled.

Its processing facilities include channel and bus equalisation, dynamics, four Lexicon effects engines and BSS graphic equalisers. Soundcraft documents later software that expands available mixing capacity, but the firmware installed on the offered console is not specified. Likewise, optional networking cards and external stageboxes should be checked separately; their availability in the product family does not establish their inclusion in this listing.

Model overview

  • 32-in/32-out USB audio interface.
  • 26 motorised faders and a 5-inch touchscreen.
  • Four Lexicon effects engines.
  • FaderGlow workflow and bus graphic EQ.

Si Impact: direct controls with changing assignments

Soundcraft Si Impact combines a selected-channel control area with motorized faders and a touchscreen. The operating idea is to keep common mixing tasks on physical controls while using assignments to give the same surface access to different channels and buses. For an engineer, the important comparison is how quickly those assignments can be understood during the show.

FaderGlow indicates what the faders are currently controlling. This is particularly relevant when moving between channel levels, auxiliary contributions and graphic EQ. A fader’s physical position alone does not tell the whole story if its function has changed. A clear layout and consistent labeling make the color indication more useful.

Input sockets, USB channels and mix capacity

The Si Impact’s USB interface is specified as 32 inputs and 32 outputs. That describes an audio connection with a computer; it should not be confused with the number of microphone sockets or used as a count of physical faders. A recording plan needs to identify which sources are sent to the computer and how playback returns are routed to the mix.

Soundcraft also documents a firmware update that changes the available mixing capacity. The offered unit’s firmware and fitted interface configuration are not stated in the inventory. Current maximum-capacity headlines should therefore be checked against the actual configuration. The console’s expansion options do not establish that a particular stagebox or optional card is supplied.

A channel-processing workflow

The manufacturer’s manual covers input functions, gates, compressors, equalization and output controls. Those are separate decisions in a mix. Input gain establishes an appropriate signal at the start of the path; equalization changes spectral balance; dynamics processing changes level behavior. One should not be used as an automatic substitute for another.

For example, an engineer comparing consoles may want to reach an EQ adjustment quickly while retaining a clear view of the source and its level. The selected-channel area can be evaluated in that context. The relevant question is whether the control workflow supports the tasks used most often, rather than how many controls can be listed in isolation.

Auxiliary mixes and the fader-follow approach

The Si Impact manual describes tOTEM fader-follow operation. This brings the contributions to a chosen mix onto the channel faders, making a monitor or other auxiliary balance a physical fader task. The operator still needs to identify the selected destination, because the same faders may otherwise be controlling the main mix.

A monitor mix and the audience mix may need different balances. Keeping the destination clear helps prevent an adjustment intended for one listener from being applied to another path. Channel naming, layer organization and the function indication all contribute to that clarity. This is a workflow to assess in relation to the actual production, not a guarantee that a saved show is already configured for it.

Graphic EQ on the faders

The official manual describes assigning the output graphic equalizer’s bands across the faders, with high and low ranges selected separately. That changes the faders from level controls into frequency-band controls. The display and red FaderGlow indication identify this different role.

For a buyer, this is an example of how the console uses one physical surface for several jobs. It can place a bank of EQ adjustments under the fingers, but it also makes function awareness important. Returning to the intended mixing mode and checking the selected output are parts of a deliberate operating routine.

Lexicon effects and mix organization

Four Lexicon effects engines are documented for Si Impact, with dedicated effects buses. Effects send and return levels serve a different task from the main channel level. A reverb can be treated as a shared creative space, while another effect may serve a more specific source or cue. The show’s needs should determine the arrangement.

VCA and mute groups provide further organizational tools. A VCA is a way to control assigned levels together, while a mute group is a different action. An engineer can compare how those controls fit their working method without assuming that any particular grouping is supplied on the used console.

Shows, snapshots and computer requirements

The Si Impact guide documents shows, cue lists and snapshots. A repeatable show depends on deciding what a recall should change and what must remain stable. Storing a useful project also means retaining a suitable backup and identifying the correct system configuration before the next deployment.

For computer recording, check the current driver and operating-system requirements directly with Soundcraft. An older manufacturer compatibility list is not a promise of support for every current computer. This inventory names the Si Impact console; it does not name a computer, software licence, stagebox or additional interface card.
