Clay Paky HY B-Eye K15: wash, beam and pixel effects

The Clay Paky HY B-Eye K15 is an LED moving head that combines wash, beam and visual-effects functions. Claypaky identifies 19 RGBW LEDs rated at 40 W each and a 4–60° zoom. Individual emitter control and a rotating front lens are central to the design, allowing the operator to work with both the projected light and the appearance of the fixture itself.

The HY designation is part of this model name. It should not be treated as interchangeable with the earlier B-Eye range, nor with the separately named K15 Aqua. An equipment list or console personality should reflect the exact variant rather than just the B-Eye family.

Control over the look

The manufacturer describes three operating approaches: wash, beam and kaleidoscopic FX. The range gives a designer distinct ways to use the same fixture, from a broad color field to a tighter look or a visible pixel pattern. The current official specification also lists DMX, Art-Net, sACN and RDM.

When considering these fixtures for a show, decide whether the priority is an even wash, individual-pixel programming or front-lens effects. That choice influences the preferred control mode and the amount of programming required. Check the actual mode and firmware against manufacturer documentation before patching. The product name does not establish an optional weather-rated variant, transport equipment or any measured performance of the particular stock offered.

Pixel control and the projected result

The HY B-Eye K15 can be considered from two viewpoints. One is the light arriving on a surface, where coverage and color are the immediate concerns. The other is the visible arrangement of emitters in the fixture’s face. Individual-pixel programming can make that face part of the composition instead of using it only as a source of illumination.

A rotating front lens changes how the emitted beams relate to one another. This is a different visual tool from panning the entire fixture. Keeping source-face effects, head movement and zoom changes separate during programming can make a transition easier to read. The desired cue may call for one of these controls, several together or a simple static wash.

Control-mode selection should reflect the design. More individual access can support detailed pixel work, while a simpler plan may prioritize the conventional wash and beam functions. Review the official mode definitions rather than assuming that a fixture-library name alone selects the required level of control.
